Nairobi, Kenya
When we saw the beautiful and unique work of this group, we were beyond excited to learn more about their background and technique. The Craftsmen of Nairobi group was founded in 2013 and is a small but mighty group of five male artisans from Western Kenya that work on some of our ankole horn collection.
What surprised us the most was that these amazing artisans are all self taught using Kenya's artisanal craftwork techniques and have been growing their team by sharing their skills with other fellow craftsmen. You can truly see the talent reflected in each skillfully crafted piece. All of the pieces are entirely handmade and created with the effort of several time intensive processes. The ankole horn in our collection is all up-cycled and ethically sourced from Uganda. The bone is hand cut and polished to create various pieces from homeware to jewelry. All of the horns have distinct graining and colors which provide a unique look to every piece in our collection. There are no two horns that are identical which makes every single one of these rare in its own way.
Supporting artisan made work enables them to expand their businesses and improve their skill sets by bringing them the opportunity to bring their craftsmanship to a global market. The profits each craftsman makes is also invested back into themselves and their families to provide a better quality of life.
